Wool Grease

Nothing goes to waste with our end-to-end scouring process

Wool has more use than just lining the inside of our jackets. One of its greatest applications comes from the grease that coats it. This is a natural substance that is produced by a sheep’s sebaceous glands. Its use for the animal is to protect its skin and wool from harsh weather conditions. However, its use for humans is much more versatile and is demonstrated in a variety of everyday products.

If this grease is of a high enough quality, then it can be used in moisturising goods, animal feed supplements, leather treatment, anti-corrosion products and even as a Vitamin D supplement.

A versatile ingredient

The way that we extract this wool grease is through our industrial wool grease plant. When they wash the greasy wool in warm liquids and sift it through the different sections, they’re left with wastewater. Before we send the water to be purified, we’re able to extract this versatile ingredient.

Wool grease’s quality can vary. For example, our grease has been described as having high cholestoral content. . Lanolin is a product that is often used in the cosmetics industry for moisturising products.
