Standard Wool (UK) Limited carries out its wool processing for UK Scoured Wool within Thomas Chadwick & Sons, here in Dewsbury, UK. Where we sell other products like Wool Tops, NZ Scoured Wool and other Wool material, this is outsourced to reputable third parties in different locations.
Thomas Chadwick & Sons recognise that its day to day operations have an effect on the local, regional and global environment. As a consequence of this, the management is committed to initiating a programme of continuous improvements in environmental performance and pollution prevention.
The Company is an ISO 9001:2000/ISO14001:2004 accredited commission wool scourer & blender supplying clean scoured wool for the UK and overseas yarn spinning and non -woven trade. Wool offers a natural and environmentally sustainable option to man-made fibres in the making of products as diverse as carpets and clothing.
The wool scouring process uses large quantities of hot water and detergents to clean dirty and greasy wool. Consequently it is our aim to reduce our consumption of energy, chemicals and water, and to reduce the impact and amount of both liquid and solid waste arising without any adverse effect on product quality.
The company currently recycles wastes such as:
- Wool Grease which is sold to refiners.
- Sludge which is composted.
- Shoddy waste fibre which is recycled to agricultural land.
- Plastic packaging which is recycled.
- Hessian packaging which is recycled.
- Wire packaging which is recycled.
- Wood ā scrap which is recycled.
- Paper & Cardboard which is recycled.
The Company regards environmental regulations, laws and other codes of practice as setting the minimum standards of environmental performance and will endeavour to exceed such requirements whenever practicable. We firmly believe the future for Wool Processing involves decarbonisation of our energy sources and we look to invest time and money in finding future solutions to ensure the company can prosper.
The Company will provide the necessary instruction and training for employees & contractors that it brings on to its site to implement this policy and carry out routine auditing to ensure compliance.
The Directors have implemented an Environmental Management System (EMS) for setting and reviewing environmental objectives and targets and to ensure continual environmental improvement.
The Directors are committed to the implementation of this policy and will give full backing to all those authorised to carry it out.
At third party locations we made regular visits to see the processing of our wools, in addition we ensure that the third-party processors are meeting legal and environmental requirements and industry standards through verifying recognised industry certification.
